It’s Only A Matter Of Time – Watch Fred The Robot ‘Malfunction’ And Scare A Bunch Of Londoners In A Pub

The below video is from NOW TV’s promotion of Westworld airing on their platform. The video shows Engineered Art‘s ‘Fred’ who chats to members of the public. When talking about a robot invasion however, he ‘malfunctions’ and begins smashing glasses much to their dismay. Touted as an ultra-realistic robot, based on actor Tedroy Newell, I’m pretty sure I’d figure out pretty quickly this was a real human.

I always look into the eyes of the people I speak to and I’d notice these lifeless pupils as soon as he said hello. But then again, this is London after all. London, where you’ll get stabbed for looking in the wrong direction. I’ll stay up North.

It’s only a matter of time though before they make ultra-realistic sex dolls. Because let’s face it, this is the only reason we’re advancing robotics research.

Keep going for the video and then a behind the scenes look.

Pew Pew! – Watch This Guy Drive A Homemade Star Wars Tie Fighter

This video is from Allan Carver, maker of awesome things. Here he has created a homemade, driveable, electric Tie Fighter. If you’re a Star Wars fan then no doubt you’ll be wanting to get one of these for yourself. Not sure how this would fare going down the motorway (Spoiler: Not very well). This is however still cool to see and imagine the look on peoples faces as you’re cruising through the streets.

Two kinds of foam were used. L200 for the body and rigid 2″ thick insulation foam for the wings.

The motor controller was a Sabertooth dual-motor driver and worked perfectly with the RC controller. FYI, use the aileron and elevator pins.

I used a 70s Kenner toy for the wings and control pod scale, but I adjusted the width so it will fit through a set of double doors. For the back of the tie fighter, I used the toy shown in this video. It was much cleaner than the original Kenner tie fighter.

After measuring tie fighter and pilot height from the movies, it’s roughly one third the scale of a real tie fighter as depicted in the movies.

Roughly one third of the size, well, I think his next challenge should be making a 1:1 scale replica of the Death Star.

But Will It Float? – Watch This Timelapse Of A Giant Cruise Ship Being Constructed Out Of Over 2.5 Million LEGO Bricks

The video below is of the attempt by Dream Cruises to break the Guinness World Record for the largest LEGO ship. While it didn’t start off as a world record attempt, they used over 2.5 million LEGO bricks to celebrate their new ship. I’ve been to shops that sell LEGO, have you seen how expensive it is? This must have cost more than 2.5 million just to build! Mind you, it is China and everything is dirt cheap over there. And fake. Show me the logo on all of those bricks now!

To celebrate the launch of a new 18-deck, 151,695-ton cruise ship, a Hong Kong tourism company decided to mark the occasion by building a large-scale replica out of LEGO. The result was the Largest LEGO ship, achieved by Dream Cruises to mark the launch of its World Dream ship.

If only they’d done a follow video of them trying to make the boat float. Only for it to sink to the depths along with their hopes and dreams.

One Step Closer To A Holodeck – See The Infinadeck Omnidrectional Treadmill That Allows You To Run In VR

The below video is from the YouTube channel SmarterEveryDay. In this Destin Sandlin goes to visit the guys behind the Infinadeck Omnidirectional Treadmill, we’ll call it Infinadeck for short, to save me having to type that again. Similar to the one used in Ready Player One, this allows you to freely walk around in virtual reality without hitting a wall.

In engineering we have these assignments called technology readiness levels. There’s nine of them and I would say this is somewhere between a six and a seven, which means there’s a working prototype that works and they’re just refining the subsystems. They’re about to go to production so it’s really cool to be able to walk on this Infinadeck before it goes out into mainstream production and see the behind the scenes engineering things they’re having to solve.

This would excite me but I can imagine these being extremely expensive when they actually get released. Not to mention the fact my other half will just plain refuse letting me have one. “It’s either me or the treadmill.” Your bags are already by the door waiting for you.

Swift Kick In The Feels – Watch This Magician Put Britain’s Got Talent Judges In Tears, Earns Golden Buzzer

The below video is from this years Britain’s Got Talent, probably the only type of these shows I actually enjoy these days. While we got the usual razz, the one that stands out is magician Marc Spelmann. Marc Spelmann does four magic tricks for the judges, but it’s not the tricks that make this so emotional. What’s just as important as the actual tricks themselves is the story that goes along with it. What a fantastic story it was. Marc’s wife had tried to get pregnant for five years, the moment she’s successful, she gets diagnosed with cancer.

After battling through chemotherapy whilst pregnant, the baby actually survives! That baby then guesses all the answers to the trick, months in advance. The whole thing brought a few concrete blocks to my hardened eyes. If you haven’t watch Britain’s Got Talent, at least watch this.

Keep going for the video.

Watch This Timelapse Of A Dude Sculpting Some Of Your Favourite Movie Characters Out Of Clay

The below videos are of Steven Richter of Tom Spina Designs sculpting some of our favourite characters. Clay can be a wonderful thing if you actually have an artistic talent. I once made some pretty awesome clay sculptures when I was in school. “You made a wonky ashtray that was green and brown.” Yeah but it was an awesome ashtray! “It had a hole in the middle of it and your mother got cigarette ash everywhere.” Yeah well, I was 7, what do you expect?!

Below he creates Thanos (with light up eyes), Hulk and Chewbacca. Of course be sure to visit his channel for a bunch more. The amount of time and detail that go into these are amazing. You don’t really get a sense of how long these take to create as they’re filmed in a timelapse. But you can be damn sure it takes more patience than I am capable of.

Good Old Amazon – Delivery Guy Casually Attempts To Throw Package, Fails, Throws It Again

These are two videos from Artem Russakovskii who managed to film his Amazon delivery being made. The delivery driver casually attempts to throw the package up to the top floor of the guys patio, misses then does it again and saunters off. What’s even more amazing is he attempts to take a photo of the delivery while it’s in mid-air. How was he going to explain that one when he got back?

Hey Amazon, this is how your last mile delivery driver delivered my package today.

Are you kidding me?

My wife was in the car and watched the whole thing.

When he was walking back, she asked him “Really?”.

He said “Yup” and walked away.

Hopefully the guy got fired (probably didn’t though) and Artem at least managed to get some compensation. Considering the fact Amazon hire absolutely anyone, this sort of behaviour isn’t really all that shocking.

Keep going for the video and then another angle showing the Amazon driver is full view.

Simply Amazing – Guy Creates Stunning Pictures Using Only Spray Paint

The below video is from the My Mate VINCE YouTube channel. While known for usually making non-portable consoles… portable, this video is of a painter he saw in Tenerife whilst on holiday. The painter uses only spray paint to create these masterpieces. Watching the whole thing come together makes me realize that my stick figure drawings suck.

Hi, this video shows a Tenerife Street Artist explaining how to do Spray Paint Art to my son. It is amazing to watch how quickly he works and the way the painting comes together. This was filmed in April 2018 in Los Cristianos in Tenerife. The price was 10 Euros for 1 painting or 20 Euros for 3 paintings. The artist was a true gentlemen, he had a lot of time for us and wouldn’t accept a tip. The paintings are limited to certain scenes like galaxies and skyscrapers but it is very interesting to watch if you haven’t seen it before.

I think I’d fail even creating the moon, let alone the rest of the stuff. If you’re ever in Tenerife, make sure you find this guy out. The fact that these paintings only cost 10 Euros a pop is amazing. You could definitely get a frame for these and get them up on a wall.

I’m Skeptical – Take A Tour Of The Moon In Wonderful 4K

Why am I skeptical, you may be asking yourselves. Well, the video below is a beautiful 4K rendering of the moon provided by the NASA Goddard YouTube channel. The more and more we get better at technology and seeing things that are far away… Why can’t we see where the Apollo landings happened? Where’s that iconic flag? Why can’t we see the rest of the junk? Oh it may be minuscule you’ll be telling me. Bullshiz! I want to see that flag damn you! I feel like until people are able to see this, people will still doubt the moon landings. “But they definitely happened!” You can’t prove that!

Still, the video looks pretty cool and shows you how it would look if it was made of rocks rather than cheese.

My Birthday Is Coming Up… – Guy Creates Huge Vortex Flame Thrower Cannon Thing

The below video is from YouTube channel JAIRUS OF ALL; who has created one beast of a flame cannon. When would this come in handy? It’s hard to imagine right now, but if you had one, you’d find uses for it. “Honey, I need to light my candles, where’s the lighter?” Don’t worry my love, I’ve got it covered… Then you get to buy a new house! What’s most impressive is the fact that the flames truly do shoot out in a vortex. This is thanks to some clever tape and fan work. In any case, it’s my birthday soon… 😉

Keep going for an explanation of how its built or skip to 1:30 to see the action.
